I was on the hunt for the perfect gift.  My girlfriend was moving back to Pittsburgh after her job transferred her away for two years and I wanted to welcome her home. It had to be something unique, pampering, reasonably priced, and made in Pittsburgh. That tough order took some serious searching but I found just the right thing!

Loova is a small shop in Station Square that specializes in handmade bath and body products all concocted in Pittsburgh.   There are body scrubs, oils, lotions, sprays and salts all blended with essential and fragrance oils.  There are scents to relax, energize, and just about anything else you can imagine. The display is wonderfully dizzying.  There are gifts for mommies-to-be and brides-to-be and holiday soaps and romantic soaps and even fun soaps for children!  As the delightful scents waft through the store it’s easy to feel carried away to a far away place. (There’s even one called Mystical Sex. Enough said.)

The Coconut Ice took me on a vacation.  But wait, the Soak Up The Sun smells even more like the ocean!    Juicy Pineapple is an Hawaiian dream.

Musk at dusk takes away all your worries.  Candy Corn is a Halloween treat that even looks like a giant candycorn.  I went on to smell Hugs-n-Kisses, Honey Bear, Rosemary’s Mint Garden, Sweet Vanilla Bean, Woodland Nights, Happy Birthday, Kiwi Bergamot, and many more! There are more than two dozen varieties.

There are even adorable soaps for kids!   The Soapy Creatures are clear glycerin soaps with toys inside to make bath time more fun. Lizards and dancers and turtles and fish. I had to have one!

For my special gift I settled on three of the handmade glycerin soaps: Juicy Pineapple, Musk at Dusk, and Candy Corn (3 for $15). I also picked out a lizard soap for an adorable little boy who will love it ($4.00).  For myself, I wanted to try something called a soap sponge which has a unique wavy design and is supposed to take the place of using a sponge in the shower and last for 15 showers($7.50).   It took me a while to decide between: Milk and Honey,  The Beach, Island Vacation, Lazy Lavender, Raspberry Lemonade, Lemon Verbena, and CocoNana.  I went with the CocoNana but I plan to try out others soon!

Loova sells these little treasures in shops all over the country… lathering the rest of America in great scents all created in Pittsburgh.  For more on Loova check them out on the web including their Soap of the Month Club: www.loova.com
